THE OPEN DOOR
Shortly after my wife and I were married, we began to look for a church where we could attend regularly. In Kansas City, Ks, in the downtown area, there was this huge Gothic looking church that had been built in the early 20th century and was recently purchased by the Southern Baptists.
One Sunday we decided to vist this church. We looked at their ads in the newpaper and determined that they began worship at the biblically appointed hour...10:45am. We arrived a few minutes prior to this time and noticed an absence of people entering the building. We figured that we may have misunderstood the time for the morning worship service. The church was on the corner of two streets. As we arrived at the building we noticed a door and attempted to open it and enter. It was locked. We did not “stand at the door and knock” (Rev 3:20) We proceeded down the street and noticed another door...it also was locked. Finally we found the “open door” and entered in. Services were already under way and we made our way to the sanctuary and found our seats. And, of course, the irony of this story is that the church was advertised as the “Church of the Open Door”.
